Health and medication use
Half of the Argentinians who consumed medicines in the last year self-medicate.
The Social Research Centre (CIS) UADE- Voices! carried out a new national public opinion study with the aim of understanding opinions on health and attitudes towards the use of medicines among Argentinians.
Some findings of the study:
- Young people among 16 and 29 years old are the most likely to self-medicate, the ones that best approve this practice and those who mainly rely on their experience and that of family / friends to know what dose to take.
- Analgesics/anti-inflammatories are the most consumed and self-medicated medications - along with anti-influenza, antacids and laxatives.
- Doctors are the main source of information about the doses to take and the most reliable actors to inform about health. However, their own experience, family members, TV and radio programs and the Internet have a high degree of credibility.
