Argentina Solidarity, an invitation to join

"On the eve of the celebration of International Volunteer Day, by way of summary, I can say that each and every one of the book's findings only confirm that volunteering is a phenomenon that deserves to be celebrated. It generates well-being in the doer, in the beneficiary, increases levels of trust and social cohesion and has a high economic impact. It is undoubtedly a phenomenon that deserves promotion and must be accompanied by public policies", Constanza Cilley (2015).

On the occasion of the International Volunteer Day celebrated on December 5, the Social Sector Forum sponsored and organized the presentation of the book written by Constanza Cilley, Executive Director of Voices!, "Argentina Solidaria: una invitación a ser parte".

Some results of the presentation of the book Argentina Solidaria:

  • Argentina has a lot of work to do to promote this phenomenon, since although the vast majority of Argentinians consider themselves to be in solidarity, only 2 out of 10 do voluntary work.
  • Volunteerism is strongest in the middle-aged segments (31% vs. 17% among young people and 20% among those over 50) and it is especially strong in the interior of the country (26% vs. around 15% in Buenos Aires).
  • The main motivators of volunteering are the knowledge/awareness of people's problems and the values or examples received in the family.
