Argentinians and Intergenerational bonds

Most of Argentinians consider that intergenerational contact is important, and that the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is enriching for both.

The Social Research Centre (CIS) UADE – Voices! conducted a national public opinion study with the aim of investigating the representations of the population about contact between different generations. 

Some findings of the study:

• 91% of Argentinians state that intergenerational contact is very or quite important. 71% also indicate that older adults have a 'strong' influence on the values of children and young people, and that 'the encounter between grandparents and grandchildren is enriching for both (76%).
• 6 out of 10 Argentinians agree that the role of grandparents is 'to promote the fun of grandchildren, being buddies and setting fewer limits than their parents', as well as 'to educate them and be a guide'.
• Technology' (54%) appears as the main communication stumbling block between generations, followed by 'lifestyles' (37%), and far behind by 'values and world views' (18%).
