National population survey on marriage and familia
75% of respondents think that the ideal society is based on the family and that marriage is fundamental to the unity of society.
National survey conducted for the Institute of Family Sciences at Austral University.
Some findings from the study:
- 78% of argentinians consider the definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
- 70% believe that the foundation of a strong marriage is a committed love and not the desire to be together. However, 82% responded that divorce is the best solution when problems cannot be solved.
- 65% said it is better for children to grow up in a home where the parents are formally married.
- For 60% of respondents the economic reasons justify not having children and 59% think that social problems could be solved with public policies that favor family life.
- While 62% think that life begins with fertilization, 60% justify abortion in some cases.
