Research on Hepatitis C
7 out of 10 Argentineans have never been tested for Hepatitis C.
At the request of the Argentine Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Voices! conducted a nationwide survey in order to know the perceptions of Argentinians in relation to Hepatitis C. The survey addresses the level of knowledge and media information about the disease, the perception of risk in the population and prevention measures.
Some findings of the study:
- Hepatitis C is a problem for 6 out of 10 Argentinians.
- However, only 14% say they know a lot about the subject, while 8 out of 10 say they know little or nothing and only 3 out of 10 saw, read or heard something about Hepatitis C in the last year.
- Most Argentinians believe that Hepatitis C can be prevented (69%). 51% believe -erroneously- that there is a vaccine and 47% think that it can be cured in more than 95% of cases.
- However, 7 out of 10 Argentinians were never tested for hepatitis C. Among the 23% who did have a test, 66% did so more than a year ago.
